Environmental Compliance and Permit

We apply national and international standards in the regions we operate from exploration to construction, through operations and into post-closure. In addition to these standards, there are well-established requirements to evaluate the environmental and socio-economic impacts of the project before exploration and mining activities are approved. As a company, we comply with all applicable laws and regulations in our operational areas and allocate extensive resources for this. Each site-specific EMS has been designed to include scheduled monitoring, engineering, administrative controls, and reporting on focus areas that include water, waste and hazardous materials, biodiversity, air quality, tailings management, energy and emissions, and reclamation under the scope of the relevant laws, regulations and the international best practices.

Biodiversity

Our mining site is of great importance for conservation of species and we aim to have a positive impact on the local biodiversity of the Develi region. Our ongoing works include collecting and planting acorns in designated areas to strengthen the oak population, as well as identifying and protecting endemic species such as the endemic plant "Astragalus Oksutdaghensis" found on the mine site. Additionally, preserving topsoil for future rehabilitation and maintaining conservation areas within the mine site are the ongoing processes.

We focus on endemic, sensitive and endangered species which are also included in our Biodiversity Offset Management Plan.

The results of various initiatives have led to the presence of an endemic plant species named “Astragalus Oksutdaghensis” in the mine site being confirmed by the Nordic Journal of Botany.

Air Quality Monitoring and Reporting

We actively manage air quality emissions and sustain compliance with the regulatory standards through engineering controls or management of our operations. Monitoring stations are strategically located in and around our mine site. As part of our air quality monitoring program, field samples are sent to accredited laboratories for analysis.

Water Management

Management of water quality and quantity on our site is of great importance at all stages including exploration, maintenance, repair and operation. Monitoring and measurement procedures are in place for comprehensive site water monitoring throughout our operating site.

We became a signatory to the International Cyanide Management Code (ICMC) to ensure maintenance of the best practices during transportation and use of cyanide and after successfully completing the audit in 2023 we certified in 2024 by ICMI.

International Cyanide Management Code (ICMC)

We also successfully met the requirements of ISO 14001: 2015 Environmental Management System, one of the most important elements of the Environmental, Social Impact and Management approach, in 2021 and received our certificate.

Quality Management Systems

We protect the ecosystem

The climate crisis, which threatens our future and the existence of our planet, continues to increase its impact day by day. It is important for our ecosystem to protect all living creatures whose habitat is limited to a certain region.

We recycle our wastes as a respect for environment
Combating climate change and the zero waste policy have an important place in our corporate culture. We turn this sensitivity into concrete gains by recycling our wastes.

Waste/tailings management practices on our site are based on our Zero Waste principle. All wastes are managed in accordance with the government regulations. We apply safety protocols and protect the environment with special procedures for all management processes, including site-specific waste transportation, storage response and reporting. Sorting and monitoring of wastes is carried out routinely on our site, and wastes stored on the site are safely kept and monitored until further treatment, transportation and/or disposal.

Environmental Policy

We have adopted as a principle to protect the health and safety of our employees, contractors, communities and the environment and operate in full compliance with the national and international standards at all stages of our work, including exploration, operation, and closure.

Therefore, we are committed to:

  • carry on our operations in compliance with the national and international legislations and standards,
  • take necessary steps and measures to control and prevent the environmental impacts and pollution caused by our operations,
  • ensure a continuous awareness and development on environmental issues and the environmental management system for both company employees and contractors,
  • establish, implement and continuously improve an environmental management system,
  • identify environmental risks and hazards,
  • have a constructive communication on environment with the local people in surrounding settlements,
  • ensure recycling and disposal of wastes at source, and development and continuous improvement of the waste management system,
  • rehabilitate the operations site in a planned manner after the mining operations are completed,
  • provide training about the roles and responsibilities regarding environment,
  • issue and ensure the implementation of environmental procedures and instructions,
  • monitor and protect plants and animals which are a part of biodiversity,
  • protect the wildlife in and around our operational areas,
  • protect the cultural heritage and transfer it to the future generations,
  • ensure efficient use of energy and natural resources,
  • carry out sustainable mining in harmony with the environment by following the technological developments in the mining sector with our professional management team and competent personnel.
