Öksüt Gold Mine

The Öksüt Gold Mine is a gold mining operation fully owned by the international mining corporation Centerra Gold Inc. The Öksüt Mine is located in the Kayseri province of south-central Türkiye, 290 km to the southeast of the capital city of Ankara and 45 km directly south of the city of Kayseri. In Öksüt Mine, we operate “open pit mining operations” in two separate pits named Keltepe and Güneytepe. Our operational method is heap leach. The ore extracted from the open pits is first crushed by jaw crushers and then cone crushers and screened to scale down to suitable sizes. Afterwards they go through heap leach and carbon-in-column processes to obtain dore gold.

Öksüt Gold Mine is one of the Turkish mining projects that were funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Our History

The resource was first discovered in 2007 during surface surveys conducted by the Stratex International PLC geological team. Drilling activities, which started in 2008 in the area defined Güneytepe mineralization, were expanded in 2009 and a larger mineralization was detected at Keltepe pit. Centerra Gold purchased all shares of Stratex in 2013 and became 100% owner of Öksüt Madencilik and the project. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval was completed in 2015, and the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) was prepared and published in 2016. Construction activities commenced in 2018 upon completion of the necessary permits and feasibility studies within the scope of mining activities. In the 3rd quarter of 2019, construction and production preparation works were completed and run-of-mine gold ore production started. The first gold pour occurred in January 31, 2020, and the mine achieved commercial production as of May 31, 2020.
